The Summer of Sangaile

  • Dir: Alante Kavaite

  • Lithuania/France/The Netherlands, 2015, 88minmins

  • Cast: Julija Steponaityte, Aiste Dirziute, Jurate Sodyte

The smiles and vertigo of first summer loves have been the stuff of film for ages, yet we constantly circle back for new faces, sensations and memories that truly wondrous films of discovery can offer. In this evocative duet, Lithuanian-born French filmmaker Alante Kavaite brings this scenario new life through compelling performances from two striking newcomers. Kavaite celebrates lazy days of flirtation and commitment between a local girl Auste (Dirziute) and the newcomer by the lake, Sangaile (Steponaityte). Auste escapes her humdrum life into dreams of fashion but Sangaile wants to soar even more, where Auste helps her take flight and provides a safe landing.
