Nikita

  • Dir: Luc Besson

  • France / Italy, 1990, 117 minmins, DCP

  • Cast: Anne Parillaud, Jean-Hugues Anglade, Tchéky Karyo, Jean Reno

To kill or be killed? That’s the question for Nikita – with her instincts for sever violence and creative thinking, the punk junkie is given a chance to “serve her country” in exchange for “committing suicide” after murdering a police officer. Remade into a government assassin, she carries out her deadly assignments while yearning to be true to her new love. Benefited from the explosive performance of his then-wife Anne Parillaud, Luc Besson has transformed his intense, stylish noir-thriller into a moving story of a woman’s transformation – from a moroseeyed scrap to a beautiful femme fatale, made stronger by “taking advantage of femininity” as Jeanne Moreau enlightens.
