10 on Ten

  • Dir: Abbas Kiarostami

  • Iran/France, 2004, 90minmins, D-beta

With a knowing, self-reflexive wink at his previous films, Kiarostami offers a master class in cinema – where else but on wheels? With cameras fixed to the dashboard (as in Ten), the director drives through the sweeping landscapes of Taste of Cherry (1997), all the while discussing ten points on his own style of independent filmmaking. Intimate, chatty, and brilliantly articulate, his mobile lectures emphasize the possibilities of DV and the creation of true auteurist expression. The carpool of a lifetime with a one-of-a-kind visionary.
